Tennessee's Erlanger Medical Center Gains $5.35M Profit in FY 2011

Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tenn., finished fiscal year 2011 with a profit of $5.35 million, down from last year's profit of $8.58 million, according to a Chattanoogan report.

EMC had budgeted for a profit of $16.6 million this year, but according to the report, admissions were under budget by 2.9 percent for the year.

However, August was a big month for the hospital, as that month alone showed a gain of $1.53 million. The hospital's admissions in August were at the highest level in five years, and it had a record number of births, according to the report. The inpatient and outpatient surgeries at EMC were also up 27 percent from last August.
