Erlanger's Budget Shortfall Hits $10.3M in First Half of Fiscal Year

Erlanger Health System, based in Chattanooga, Tenn., lost $3.9 million in December, bringing its six-month losses to $10.3 million, according to a Chattanooga Times Free Press report.

The budget deficit is one of the largest Erlanger has had in recent years, according to the report. Currently, the health system only has 79 days of cash on hand, compared with 103 days last December, and both its inpatient and outpatient surgeries are down.

Erlanger has yet to lay off employees, although last week, interim CEO Charlesetta Woodard-Thompson announced the elimination of some of the health system's executive leadership positions. In total, six vice president positions were phased out through restructuring.
