Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe has temporarily halted the state's plans to pursue federal grants to set up its health insurance exchange, according to a Heartlander report.
The decision is expected to be only a temporary reprieve because Gov. Beebe does not need legislative approval to move forward, according to the report.
Last month, Republicans within the state's legislature urged State Insurance Commissioner Jay Bradford to not apply for the $3.8 million grant. Mr. Bradford has since held a summit to explore more comprehensive planning of a health insurance exchange and expects the state to eventually move forward with the funding request and development process, according to the report.
