Seven MedExpress Urgent Care clinics have closed their doors in Florida and Minnesota.
MedExpress, owned by UnitedHealth Group's Optum, confirmed with Becker's on Nov. 8 that it has closed its facilities in Lutz, West Tampa, Carrollwood and Boca Raton, Fla. In Minnesota, clinics in Eden Prairie, West St. Paul and Cloquet have closed.
"We respond to local market conditions when determining our footprint. Consequently, we have made the decision to close these centers in Florida and Minnesota," a MedExpress spokesperson said. "As always, we are supporting team members affected with job placement resources and seeking to deploy them where possible to any open roles within the company."
MedExpress did not say when the seven clinics closed, but MedExpress employees were interacting online with patients at the Lutz facility as recently as Oct. 27.
MedExpress currently operates 142 clinics total, including 21 in Florida and two in Minnesota, according to its website. The Morgantown, W.Va.-based organization also closed a clinic in Chicopee, Mass., in August, NBC affiliate WWLP reported.
In August, MedExpress eliminated all registered nursing positions at more than 140 clinics as part of a larger group of layoffs at Optum, according to nurse.org.
