IU Health consolidates regions, eliminates some leadership roles

Indianapolis-based Indiana University Health is implementing a new operating model, consolidating from six regions to four, which will see a "small number" of mostly nonclinical leadership roles eliminated, the health system said in a Nov. 15 news release shared with Becker's.

About 100 positions will be affected by the change, a spokesperson for IU Health told Becker's. The health system also said that some new positions have been created and other existing roles will change.

The new operating model aims to improve patient care models and better align with future growth, including expanded footprints in Fort Wayne, Fishers and downtown Indianapolis

IU Health's updated operating model also includes a growth and activation function to execute strategies regionally and revised structures to boost career mobility and address workforce shortages.

"As the state's largest and only academic health system, IU Health is focused on making Indiana one of the healthiest states in the nation. Investing in our communities is at the center of our approach to improve health," IU Health President and CEO Dennis Murphy said. "We are adjusting our regional structure to strengthen our clinical care models and effectiveness, to improve talent pipelines and career pathways for team members, and to continue making investments in technology — all with the aim of advancing patient care."
