The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act includes more than $100 billion in mandatory spending from fiscal 2010 through 2019, including $40 billion to fund the Children's Health Insurance Program for two years. As of last year, $21.4 billion had been awarded in grants to all states through 94 grant programs funded by the PPACA, according to a recent report from the Center for Healthcare Research & Transformation, a nonprofit partnership between University of Michigan and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
Here are the 10 states that received the most grant funding under the PPACA in fiscal 2014, according to the report.
1. California — $728 million
2. New York — $414.1 million
3. Texas — $322.9 million
4. Washington — $271.7 million
5. Florida — $216 million
6. Illinois — $200.4 million
7. Massachusetts — $188.5 million
8. Ohio — $187.7 million
9. Michigan — $183.9 million
10. New Mexico — $158.1 million
