Connecticut hospital opens first eating disorder unit in the state

Rockville General Hospital in Vernon, Conn., recently opened the first inpatient unit in the state for the treatment of eating disorders.

Clinicians at the new 30-bed, 15,000-square-foot unit will treat patients ages 12 and older suffering from advanced stages of eating disorders. The clinic will serve patients from several states including Connecticut, New York and New Jersey.

While Manchester, Conn.-based Eastern Connecticut Health Network developed the center, Waltham, Mass.-based Walden Behavioral Care will manage day-to-day operations.

"We recognized the need for inpatient treatment for eating disorders in Connecticut, which will enable our residents and those of neighboring states to be treated closer to home," said Peter Karl, president and CEO of ECHN. "This partnership will help so many members of our community to get the level of treatment that they need."
