What smaller EHR vendors like Meditech, Allscripts, Athenahealth did in 2022

EHR vendors had a busy year. Here is the top news that Becker's covered on EHR vendors Meditech, Allscripts and Athenahealth in 2022.

Meditech:

 

  1. Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare selected Meditech Expanse as its EHR provider. 

  2. In November, HCA's Meditech software went down, causing outages primarily in Texas.

  3. Meditech collaborated with Google Health to integrate EHR search tool Care Studio into Meditech's EHR platform.

  4. Fort Bragg, Calif.-based Adventist Health Mendocino Coast swapped Meditech for Epic as its EHR vendor in a $12 million migration. 

  5. Cody (Wyo.) Regional Health switched Meditech for Epic in September. 



Allscripts:

 

  1. In March, Allscripts agreed to sell the net assets of its hospital business to N. Harris Computer Corp. for $700 million.

  2. Allscripts CEO Paul Black stepped down from his position after 10 years at the helm of the EHR vendor in May.

  3. Lewisburg, Pa.-based Evangelical Community Hospital switched from Allscripts to Epic.

  4. Boca Raton, Fla.-headquartered swapped Allscripts for Epic.

  5. CEO Rick Poulton said that the company would focus on payers and life sciences after selling its hospital business. 

 

Athenahealth:

 

  1. Private equity firms Hellman & Friedman and Bain Capital acquired Athenahealth for $17 billion.

  2. Ten months after it was bought, Athenahealth is looking to go public. 

  3. Athenahealth collaborated with Nuance to create an artificial intelligence-based EHR documentation tool.

  4. The company added Nuance's Dragon Ambient eXperience to its digital marketplace.

  5. John Hoffman was named CFO of Athenahealth in May.
