The Kansas Supreme Court ruled that a hospital in the state must provide a woman with electronic access to public records.
Kelly Roe had requested access to the records from Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg in their native, digital format, but the hospital said it would only provide hard copies of the data via paper.
The court ruled Jan. 6 that, as a public agency, Phillips County Hospital must provide copies of public records in the format that it stores them.
The court's decision reverses a ruling from the state Court of Appeals and also disagrees with the opinion of the state attorney general's office.
