The Coast Guard recently completed its nationwide Cerner EHR rollout, making it the first U.S. service unit to fully deploy the MHS Genesis system, FCW reported Nov. 17.
Four details:
1. The Coast Guard in April 2018 announced plans to go live on MHS Genesis, which is the same Cerner EHR system as the Department of Defense.
2. The Coast Guard finished its rollout of the new system Nov. 6 as part of its Atlantic wave go-live, which covered Coast Guard Atlantic Area shore medical facilities.
3. The Coast Guard and the DOD's EHR is also designed to be interoperable with the Department of Veterans Affairs' $16 billion Cerner system, which is slated to redeploy in the next few months following a development delay and a postponement to focus on COVID-19.
4. After completing the Nov. 6 launch, the Coast Guard's EHR is now live in 109 ashore locations.
"I'm happy to report that we have now gone live with our [EHR] across the country. We're the first service to achieve that," Vice Adm. Paul Thomas, the Coast Guard's deputy commandant for mission support, told lawmakers during a Nov. 16 House subcommittee hearing, according to the report.
