From teaming up with Mayo Clinic to committing to the Biden administration's cancer efforts, here is a look at where EHR giant Epic is extending its partnerships in 2024:
Mayo Clinic
Epic is collaborating with Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic and healthcare artificial intelligence company Abridge to develop a generative AI tool for nurses.
Mayo Clinic is in the process of securing patient consent to record their visits with nurses. This data will aid Abridge in developing an AI tool that will be integrated into the health system's Epic EHR. Mayo Clinic aims to begin piloting the platform in clinical settings in early 2025.
Press Ganey
Epic partnered with Press Ganey to integrate its nurse-sensitive indicators and outcomes into Press Ganey's National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators. Press Ganey's National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators collects and analyzes nursing data from more than 2,000 organizations.
The White House
Epic was among several EHR vendors to commit to the Biden administration's "Enhancing Oncology Model," which is a part of the larger Cancer Moonshot initiative. The cancer care model, created by CMS, aims to reduce expenses, provide impactful patient-centered treatment and enhance outcomes for individuals confronting a cancer diagnosis.
As part of the commitment, Epic voluntarily pledges to incorporate and expedite a specific set of cancer data elements essential for the Enhancing Oncology Model, encompassing crucial details about an individual's treatment history, test results and disease status.
Apple
Epic Systems is launching an app for Apple's new Vision Pro headset.
Epic's app on the Apple Vision Pro will be called the Epic Spatial Computing Concept app. The application description of the app asserts that it enables users to engage with charting, secure chat and In Basket workflows through gestures, voice commands and eye tracking.
Sharp HealthCare
San Diego-based Sharp HealthCare and Epic have teamed up to investigate healthcare applications for Apple's Vision Pro headset.
