A San Jose, Calif.-based Equinix data center used by Epic experienced a "power issue" that led to a brief outage March 20.
The outage affected nine hospitals, including two Sharp HealthCare campuses that diverted ambulances for around two hours amid the outage, reported the San Diego Union Tribune. The health system recently installed Epic, and its team was able to save records locally during the outage.
UC San Diego Health, which was also affected, was able to work around the outage and continue receiving ambulances.
Epic was one of multiple organizations using the data center that was impacted by the outage, an Epic spokesperson told Becker's, and was able to bring the nine affected hospitals back online.
