VillageMD has been selected for a two-year study funded by the National Institutes of Health to identify patients with undiagnosed Alzheimer's disease using EHR data.
The VillageMD Research Institute will work with digital platform Together Senior Health and the University of California San Francisco to look for warning signs in claims, demographic and healthcare data, including history of stroke, emergency room visits or appointment no-shows. The researchers plan to employ machine learning so the tool can adapt to changes over time.
"We are thrilled to be a part of this study which could be an important stepping stone in improving value-based care for the masses," said Clive Fields, MD, co-founder of VillageMD, which is majority-owned by Walgreens, in a June 6 news release. "Our researchers can help refine this algorithm with the goal of improving early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias."
