Texas healthcare AI firm picked by Amazon for global health project

Amazon Web Services has selected a Texas healthcare AI company for its global initiative to reduce health disparities.

Amazon's cloud-computing platform will help Dallas-based Pieces expand the use of its AI-generated clinical handoff tool, according to a May 18 Pieces news release. As part of the global health program, Amazon Web Services offer credits and technical expertise to companies that promise to address health inequities.

Pieces uses natural language generation to summarize patients’ hospital care to improve clinical handoffs. According to The Joint Commission, about 80 percent of serious medical errors involve miscommunication when patients are transferred from one provider to another.

The company said standardizing communication can reduce bias and errors, leading to more equitable healthcare delivery.
