Amazon subsidiary One Medical has partnered with Hartford (Conn.) HealthCare to open five clinics in Connecticut — with more on the way, Hartford Business Journal reported April 17.
It marks a growing number of collaborations between health systems and One Medical, which Amazon bought in February for $3.9 billion and offers subscription-based in-office and virtual primary care to employers and consumers. One Medical then refers patients who need special care to its health system partners.
"Through this partnership, we're going to further clinically and digitally coordinate care for communities and patients, leveraging the most well-known healthcare system in the state with a modern upstart, and blending the two to create more access and more coordination," Amir Dan Rubin, president and CEO of One Medical, told the Business Journal.
The EHRs of One Medical and Hartford HealthCare will be integrated to make for more seamless referrals and care, according to the report.
"The essence of the partnership with One Medical is about expanding access to care," Jeffrey Flaks, president and CEO of Hartford HealthCare, told the news outlet. "And it's about innovating new models of care that can allow us to ultimately drive more affordability."
Work is underway on the first two facilities, in Darien and New Canaan, with clinics in Stamford, Westport and Fairfield to follow and others to be announced soon, according to the story.
One Medical now has 220-plus clinics in more than 20 markets. Financial terms of the partnership weren't disclosed, but the news outlet cited an Axios report that health systems pay One Medical a fixed sum for the exclusive referrals.
