New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health and Apple partnered to deploy an iPad app that provides medical professionals trauma care insights in real time.
Four details:
- The app, called T6, runs exclusively on iPads, according to a Nov. 10 news release. It allows medical professionals to input and analyze patient data such as vitals and injury details. The offers real-time feedback virtual communications between the person administering care and a trauma team based in another location.
- The app is used by Northwell Health, U.S. military Craig Joint Theater Hospital in Afghanistan and San Antonio-based Brooke Army Medical Center.
- The app is named after the concept of the "golden hour," the period of time after a traumatic event that will secure the best outcome from medical intervention, thought to be around six hours.
- "We’re already seeing an increased adherence to trauma guidelines with our teams using the app," said Nathan Christopherson, vice president of surgery for Northwell. "I can also see [emergency medical services] using it at the scene of accidents to capture photos and videos to help inform care, and at rural hospitals for telemedicine — T6 has the power to do all of that."
