Software giant Microsoft announced a "multibillion" dollar investment into OpenAI, the artificial intelligence company behind ChatGPT.
Microsoft made previous investments into OpenAI in 2019 and 2021. The investment comes as the company looks to lay off 10,000 employees.
The software giant is working to integrate OpenAI tools across all of its Azure product line, according to a Jan. 23 Microsoft news release.
"We formed our partnership with OpenAI around a shared ambition to responsibly advance cutting-edge AI research and democratize AI as a new technology platform," Microsoft Chair and CEO Satya Nadella said. "In this next phase of our partnership, developers and organizations across industries will have access to the best AI infrastructure, models, and toolchain with Azure to build and run their applications."
