CVS is laying off some employees at Aetna, with many of the layoffs hitting those in corporate positions, The Hartford Courant reported Aug. 15.
CVS declined to specify how many employees would be laid off and when those layoffs are expected to take effect, according to the publication.
CVS acquired Aetna in 2018.
These layoffs are a part of the company's plan to eliminate 5,000 "non-customer-facing positions."
"We do not expect there to be any impact to our customer-facing colleagues in our stores, pharmacies, clinics or customer services centers," the company said in a statement Aug. 1 when the layoffs were announced. "We're committed to supporting impacted colleagues, and they will receive severance pay and benefits, including access to outplacement services."
The planned job cuts represent about 2 percent of CVS' overall workforce.
