UMass Memorial Health Care is partnering with digital therapeutics company MedRhythms to test if music can be used in mobile health apps for patients with neurological injuries, like strokes.
The trial will be funded by the Worcester, Mass.-based health system and be split into two phases: the effect of the app in an acute hospital setting and the continued effectiveness post-hospital discharge, an April 28 news release said.
MedRhythms is also partnering with Boston University to test if their music software can restore brain function for patients with Parkinson's disease, an April 13 news release said.
MedRhythms is testing their software in other health systems as well. The Cleveland Clinic has an ongoing study for patients living with multiple sclerosis. New York City-based Mount Sinai Health System has also been testing the software since 2019 for patients experiencing chronic strokes.
