5 areas for hospitals to prioritize during digital transformation

Transitioning to cloud-based technologies is one of the main priorities for healthcare organizations as they look to accommodate consumers' needs and expectations after the pandemic, according to a recent Accenture report.

For its Digital Health Technology Vision 2021 report, Accenture surveyed more than 6,000 healthcare executives from 31 countries and 14 industries, including 113 healthcare provider executives and 113 health insurance executives in the U.S., about their technology preferences and plans for their organizations over the next few years.

Here are five strategies that healthcare organizations should adopt to foster successful digital transformation, according to the report.

1. With a plethora of technology choices to boost patients and workforces' engagement experiences, healthcare providers should make strategic investments in the following core digital technologies: social, mobile, analytics and cloud.

2. Invest in digital twin technologies, such as Internet of Things, data streaming and 5G, to support the shift to digital environments for areas including supply chains and product life cycles.

3. Roll out technologies like natural language processing, low-code platforms and robotic process automation for employees at all levels across the organization.

4. Use remote work as an advantage to empower employees to innovate from anywhere and not be restricted to the same environment as all other workers.

5. Forge multiparty collaborations by working with multiple vendors or organizations on a common goal so that networks are established to support a trusted and secure common environment based on similar technology standards.
