Pediatric health systems are figuring out how to best use digital tools like artificial intelligence to engage patients and enhance the work of clinicians.
Becker's caught up with Omkar Kulkarni, chief transformation and digital officer of Children's Hospital Los Angeles, on Oct. 3 at Becker's Health IT + Digital Health + RCM Conference in Chicago to ask him his top areas of focus in digital transformation over the next year. Here are his responses:
Generative AI. One is having a real strategic focus around how we want to bring generative AI — AI in general, but largely generative AI — into both the clinical and administrative realms. What are the problems we're looking to solve that are important to us and are also applicable to solutions in the AI space? So really having a focus around problem statements that we want AI to solve.
Remote care. The other is caring for patients in between visits, like remote monitoring, remote management. In the pediatric space, there isn't a lot of penetration in that space in terms of remote management, caring for patients after hospitalizations or even between visits — so figuring out the right clinical use cases where that's going to demonstrate value.
