Headspace Health acquires AI-powered Sayana

Digital mental health platform Headspace Health acquired artificial intelligence-powered company Sayana.

Sayana's app uses an AI assistant to encourage users to track their moods and make connections with what might cause them, according to a Jan. 12 news release. Sayana takes methods from psychological therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy and acceptance commitment therapy to create self-care exercises and content.

"Amidst a rapidly growing landscape of mental health and wellness apps, Sayana has developed a uniquely engaging member experience backed by world-class AI and machine learning algorithms," Russell Glass, Headspace Health CEO, said in the release. Mr. Glass said this partnership will aid Headspace in its goal of building the most comprehensive mental health and well-being platform.

Headspace Health's flagship app is used in 190 countries and has more than 70 million members. The company also has partnerships with Cigna and Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente.
