Texas hospital lifts diversion following cyberattack

Lubbock, Texas-based UMC Health System's emergency centers are no longer on diversion following a cyberattack on the organization that occurred on Sept. 26.

An Oct. 23 update on the hospital's website states that patient-facing applications, including the online appointment portal and reminder system, are fully operational following the recent incident.

The EHR system has also been restored across all hospital services and UMC clinics. While a few services remain on downtime procedures, the health system reports that operations are largely back to normal, with patient care proceeding as scheduled.

The hospital, which is the only level 1 trauma center within 400 miles, initially diverted all patients coming in by ambulance after unplugging its IT network Sept. 26 to contend with the attack.
