A Lehigh Valley Health Network patient, whose breast cancer treatment photos were posted to the dark web by a Russian ransomware gang after a cyberattack at the health system, is trying to keep her lawsuit against the Allentown, Pa.-based system alive, Law360 reported May 22.
The patient has asked a federal judge to keep her lawsuit afloat as she claims the health system was negligent in protecting its patient data.
The lawsuit comes after some breast cancer patients had photos of them naked from the waist up posted on the dark web after BlackCat, a ransomware gang with ties to Russia, attacked the health system in Febuary.
The health system refused to pay ransom to the group, which resulted in patient data — including the breast cancer treatment photos — to be posted to the internet.
Lehigh Valley Health Network has notified 627 individuals to date about the breach.
