Brewer, Maine-based Northern Light Health took its EHR offline Feb. 3 after some of its servers were compromised, according to a notice on the health system's website.
"While none of the affected servers contain patient information, we made the decision to take our patient records system offline and use downtime procedures during investigation of this incident and any needed repairs," the notice said.
Patient care at Northern Light hospitals is continuing as usual with staff using downtime procedures. The health system also addressed misinformation circulating publicly about the incident. Northern Light leaders do not believe patient information has been compromised and the incident has been reported to authorities.
The system has not been asked to pay ransom and has no indication there was a ransomware attack. Northern Light also has full control of the HVAC and security systems.
As of Feb. 4, the health system remained on downtime as IT teams reviewed the servers to resolve the issue. The system anticipates its EHR will return Feb. 5 during the day.
