Osceola, Iowa-based Clarke County Hospital is notifying current and former patients that some of their protected health information may have been compromised after an unauthorized third-party accessed its network.
On April 14, Clarke County Hospital noticed suspicious activity on its network environment and shut off all access to it in order to conduct an investigation, according to a May 17 breach notification from the hospital.
The investigation determined that an unauthorized party gained access to its network and may have taken patients' personal and health information such as names, addresses, dates of birth, health insurance information and medical record numbers.
Clarke County Hospital said it does not believe any of the information was misused, but it is notifying all affected patients and has made enhancements to its security practices.
The hospital did not mention how many patients were affected.
