Springfield, Ill.-based Hospital Sisters Health System recently reported a cybersecurity incident that occurred last August.
The 13-hospital health system identified a cybersecurity breach in late August 2023 and took steps to contain and remediate the impact, according to a note on the HSHS website. The health system worked with a forensic security firm to investigate the incident and found files on the network were breached between Aug. 16 to Aug. 27, 2023.
Patient information including Social Security numbers, birth dates, names and medical records were breached during the incident. HSHS is notifying affected patients and so far there isn't evidence that breached information has been misused.
The health system hasn't released the number of patients affected by the breach.
