Inflationary pressures and a murky economic future are putting pressure on cybersecurity officials' relationship with their vendors, The Wall Street Journal reported Jan. 4.
While major firms are sparing cybersecurity from budget cuts, a sign of how much cyber protection has become integrated with a company's bottom line, cyber vendors dealing with economic pressures are reevaluating client relationships.
Some cybersecurity officers are implementing zero-based budgeting exercises to ensure that every expense is approved and justified.
Despite the apparent uncertainty with vendor relationships, significant firms are still looking to cautiously add more cybersecurity talent.
"Is the team going to grow this year? I expect that we will, it is our plan," Amazon Chief Security Officer Stephen Schmidt told the Journal. "Of course, given the way the economy is right now, who the heck knows what's going to happen in the future."
