Ninety percent of providers have installed an off-site backup system for their data, according to the 2018 HealthCare's Most Wired survey.
This marks the first year the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives have administered the Most Wired survey, which the group acquired from the American Hospital Association in July 2017. For the survey, CHIME polled leaders from 600-plus providers about IT infrastructure, including interoperability, information security, population health management and patient engagement capabilities.
Here are seven backup and data-repository processes that providers have implemented to recover data in the event of an information security incident, ranked by adoption:
1. Off-site backup: 90 percent
2. Off-site redundant data center: 78 percent
3. Storage virtualization: 77 percent
4. Cloud services for nonclinical systems: 63 percent
5. Cloud services for clinical systems: 60 percent
6. Infrastructure-as-a-service: 33 percent
7. Data-as-a-service: 23 percent
