Several Former Cincinnati-Area Hospital CEOs Had Seven-Figure Compensation

Some of the highest-earning hospital CEOs in Cincinnati were those who retired or left their hospitals in 2009 and 2010, according to a Business Courier report.

Former CEO of Health Alliance Kenneth Hanover — who is currently CEO of Northeast Health System in Beverly, Mass. — made $2.8 million in fiscal year 2009, according to the report. That included a base of $712,000, severance pay of $656,000 and other bonus and retirement perquisites upon leaving.

Doug McNeill, former CEO of Atrium Medical Center, recorded total compensation of $2.6 million after retiring in 2010, with only $338,000 of that total as the base salary.

Former CEO of Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center James Anderson had a final compensation figure of $1.9 million before retirement. That included a $773,000 salary and bonuses of roughly $687,000.

Joseph Gross, retired CEO of St. Elizabeth Healthcare, took home more than $1.8 million in the fiscal year ended Dec. 31, 2010. That included a base pay of $772,000, bonus pay of $323,000 and more than $700,000 in other compensation.
