New York awards $2B in bonuses to 800,000 healthcare workers

More than 800,000 healthcare workers in New York have received bonuses of up to $3,000 per person from the state through the Health Care Worker Bonus Program.

Gov. Kathy Hochul launched the program in 2022, which has awarded workers over $2 billion in total, according to an Aug. 13 news release from the governor.

Those who provide patient-facing services and have an annual base salary of $125,000 or less were eligible for payments and received them over two vesting periods, according to the release.

"Health care workers deliver for New Yorkers every day — and that's why we're delivering for them," Ms. Hochul said in the release. "Our powerful investments are putting money back in workers’ pockets and helping to grow our health care workforce to provide the highest quality care for New Yorkers."
