The base salary for a hospital chief medical information officer varied widely in 2011, with the most common salary falling between $200,000 and $300,000, according to the 2012 CMIO Compensation Survey.
Other key compensation findings from the survey, which polled 217 CMIOS, include the following:
• Roughly 22 percent of respondents said their base salary was between $200,000 and $250,000, and 21 percent said their salary fell between $250,000 and $300,000.
• About 17 percent of CMIO participants earned more than $300,000 per year.
• Fifteen percent of CMIO respondents said their salary was between $150,000 and $200,000 per year, 11 percent had a salary between $100,000 and $150,000 and 14 percent said their salary was lower than $100,000.
• About 53 percent of CMIOs expect to receive a bonus in 2012.
• Eighty-five percent expect no salary increase or a salary increase of no higher than 4 percent during 2012.
