Natalie Demers, a neurodiagnostic technician at Chapel Hill, N.C.-based UNC Hospitals, is moving forward with her lawsuit over an alleged wage discrepancy between her and a male coworker with the same job, according to an Indy Week report.
Ms. Demers looked at a database of hospital employee salaries published in June 2010, and she found that a male coworker with her same job and less experience made 16 percent more than her, according to the report. Court documents showed that Ms. Demers contacted her Equal Employment Opportunity officer regarding the issue, but the officer did not look into the matter, the report said.
Ms. Demers and her supervisor later discovered that a page of her résumé that listed 10 years of work experience was missing from her file. According to the report, UNC Hospitals investigated the issue to verify her work experience and received confirmation from Ms. Demers' previous employers regarding her work experience. This past January, though, UNC Hospitals denied a pay adjustment, according to the report.
The lawsuit will be heard in federal court, but a trial date has not been scheduled.
