Does Hospital Executive Pay Sufficiently Account for the "Triple Aim"?

Last week, the Connecticut Office of Health Care Access released its annual report on the compensation of the state's top hospital executives, and it has invigorated many members of the public to call for value-based compensation packages.

In an op-ed to the Hartford Courant, Joseph Walton, a retired health insurance industry employee said "hospital executive compensation is too often driven by metrics associated with maintaining and increasing revenue" instead of by factors associated with the "Triple Aim", a concept championed by former CMS Administrator Don Berwick, MD: lower costs, better health quality and better population health.
