The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners has voted that all future discussions regarding the compensation of the CEO of Cape Fear Valley Health System in Fayetteville, N.C., occur in private quarters, according to a Fayetteville Observer report.
John Henley, MD, chairman of the Cape Fear Valley board of trustees said no other private, non-profit health systems make CEO pay a public discussion topic, and the practice was a remnant from when Cape Fear Valley was publicly owned. He also said public discussion of compensation only "sells newspapers, and it created varying levels of angst, for lack of a better word," according to the report.
Current Cape Fear Valley CEO Mike Nagowski has a base salary of $534,732 and an incentive bonus of $189,669, which was approved in March.
