CEOs Are Not the Only Million-Dollar Earners at Cincinnati Hospitals

Several former CEOs of Cincinnati-area hospitals earned million-dollar compensation packages in 2009 and 2010, but there were also several physicians and other executives who hit the million-dollar level, according to a Business Courier report.

Michael Walters, former senior vice president for business development at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, earned more than $2.1 million in total compensation after retiring at the end of 2010. Mr. Walters' base salary was $287,857, and supplemental retirement earnings accounted for roughly $1.8 million, according to the report.

Steven Mickus, COO of Catholic Health Partners, took home more than $1.76 million, with a base pay of $846,286. James Gravell, CFO of Catholic Health Partners, reported total compensation of just more than $1 million.

The highest-earning physicians in the Cincinnati area were Richard Azizkhan, MD, surgeon-in-chief at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, and Dean Kereiakes, MD, medical director of the Christ Hospital Heart and Vascular Center. Dr. Azizkhan earned $1.43 million in 2010 with a base salary of $735,782, and Dr. Kereiakes made a little more than $1.06 million with a base salary of $1.02 million, according to the report.
