The 2011 Healthcare Financial Management Compensation Survey showed the average annual compensation for healthcare CFOs reached $224,500, up 7 percent from the past two years, according to an AllBusiness report.
However, HFMA's 2011 survey had a smaller percentage of system-level CFOs than the 2009 survey. In 2009, 18 percent of the CFO survey respondents were from healthcare system settings, and that percentage was only 11 percent in this year's survey. Adjusted compensations still put the average compensation increase at around 5.4 percent, the report said.
CFOs in northeastern states recorded the highest compensation at $276,100, while CFOs in the Midwest recorded the lowest wage levels at $194,100.
Female CFOs received an average compensation of $180,600, a large decrease from the reported $243,000 for males, the report said. Historically, male CFOs have made roughly $40,000 to $60,000 more than female CFOs.
