Here are 18 statistics on average bonuses for registered nurses, based on data reported by PayScale.

Based on the reported data, registered nurses in New York received the largest average bonuses, at $1,546, over $5,000 more than the next-highest reported bonus of $1,012 in Atlanta. Other cities included in the data were Los Angeles ($1,001), Dallas ($957), Chicago ($650), Houston ($605) and San Diego ($550).

By certification

Additional certifications could mean higher bonuses for some registered nurses, according to the PayScale report. The most profitable certification, based on the reported data, was critical care, which netted nurses an average $981 bonus. Other profitable certificates included CPR, which was associated with an average $510 bonus, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support, which brought in $517. Other certifications included in the report were Basic Life Support ($497.61), Neonatal Resuscitation Program ($413.46) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support ($492.64).

By years of experience

According to data from the PayScale report, nurses with less than one year of experience earned an average bonus of $969, the highest bonus achieved by any level of experience. Nurses with 20 years of experience or more came second, with average bonuses of $623, followed by those with 10-19 years of experience, who earned $606. Nurses with 1-4 years and 5-9 years of experience earned average bonuses of $515 and $519, respectively.
