CMS announced agreements with 44 insurers representing markets in eight states — Arkansas, Colorado, New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Kentucky, Oregon and Oklahoma — that will participate in a multi-payor initiative to foster collaboration between private and public healthcare payors, in an effort to strengthen primary care.
As part of the Comprehensive Primary Care initiative, Medicare will collaborate with both commercial and state health insurance plans. CMS will pay primary care practices a care management fee of $20 per beneficiary per month to support more coordinated services. Participating commercial, state and federal insurance plans will also offer enhanced payments to primary care practices, according to CMS.
Approximately 75 primary care practices will be selected to participate in the Comprehensive Primary Care initiative — a four year program — in the markets where payors have been chosen. Applicants will be accepted until July 20.
