Texas Children's Pavilion for Women is planning a $201 million expansion in Houston, the organization said July 26.
The expansion calls for transforming the former Baylor Clinic building in Houston and adding 190,000 square feet of usable space to the pavilion, which is located in the Texas Medical Center.
The expansion plan will take place in three phases. The first phase includes moving the women's assessment center from the 11th floor of the pavilion to the first floor. The second phase includes transforming the new building and relocating OB-GYN services to the new building, and the third phase includes adding more inpatient care into the existing pavilion.
The first phase is slated to be completed in spring of 2022. The full expansion is expected to be completed in 2024.
"This expansion plan will not only allow us to increase our delivery volume by about 30 percent, but will also allow us [to] have more space for specialized clinics and specific programs that will cater to women at every stage of life," said Michael Belfort, MD, OB/GYN-in-chief at Texas Children's Pavilion for Women. "We are looking forward to increasing our capacity to offer the best care to every woman and child, from the healthiest to the sickest."
