Sutter plans $380M cancer center with ASC

Sutter Health plans to build a four-story, 165,000-square-foot cancer center in collaboration with Gould Medical Group physicians on the health system's Memorial Medical Center campus in Modesto, Calif.

The $380 million project will include an ASC with four operating rooms, four procedure rooms and space for future expansion. It will also allow Gould Medical Group to bring new physicians to Modesto, with plans to recruit 44 clinicians for the cancer center and ASC.

The one-stop cancer care facility, which will provide greater access to clinical trials, will offer clinic visits, infusion and radiation therapy, imaging, lab, pharmacy and multiple complementary therapies. The center will also connect patients with advanced Sutter cancer specialists in the Bay Area and greater Sacramento area as needed.

The development is part of Sutter's strategic plan to expand access to services in the Central Valley. It is expected to open in 2028 or 2029.

"We're making meaningful progress in expanding access to the specialized care that our communities need," Sutter President and CEO Warner Thomas said in an Aug. 21 news release. "This investment … is all about meeting the real needs of people in the Central Valley. We're thrilled to be working alongside our physician partners to bring top-notch cancer care and surgical services to Modesto in this new, state-of-the-art facility."
