Vituity, a physician-owned multispeciality partnership, is partnering with the nonprofit RIP Medical Debt to eliminate $127 million in medical debt for 208,622 patients in Illinois and Georgia.
To be eligible for debt relief, patients must have a household income at or below 400 percent of federal poverty guidelines or hold medical debt representing 5 percent or more of household income, according to March 21 Vituity news release.
Almost 75 percent of Americans' medical debt is owed to hospitals, according to a recent report from The Urban Institute.
