Cascade (Idaho) Medical Center is asking voters to approve a $40 million bond for the construction of a new hospital, a year after voters rejected $19 million in bonds for the hospital, the BoiseDev reported April 4.
The hospital will need two-thirds of the voters' approval to receive the bond. Cascade blames inflation and other factors for the increase in the bond amount.
The election will be held May 16.
"Cascade Medical Center's Board announced plans in November of 2021 to replace the current facility to better meet the community's current and future health care needs," a Cascade Medical Center news release said. "An attempt to pass a bond to fund the project in 2022 garnered 56.5 percent voter approval. With more than half of the voters supporting the bond last year, the board is encouraged to try again to achieve the required two-thirds supermajority."
