Duquesne University in Pittsburgh broke ground March 1 on its College of Osteopathic Medicine.
The medical college is slated to launch in fall 2024. When it opens, it will enroll 85 students, but Duquesne plans to grow annual enrollment to the medical college to 170 students beginning in 2026.
"This new college is the ultimate expression of our commitment to promoting healthcare equity in the region and beyond," Duquesne President Ken Gormley said. "It's our boldest initiative to date and builds on our legacy of making a positive social impact by working with people and communities, including in underserved areas, to help meet critical needs."
The university said the college will help combat the shortage of primary care physicians.
The college will feature medical technology such as advanced simulation and virtual anatomy.
