The family of a Pennsylvania woman says the closure of Uniontown (Pa.) Hospital's maternity ward led to the death of a child, local news outlet WPXI reports.
The hospital closed the maternity ward last week. Niya Meyer told WPXI her daughter, Ta-sharia, prematurely went into labor July 6, and against her request, the ambulance service transported her to Uniontown Hospital to confirm if she was in labor.
Due to lack of equipment, Ta-sharia was airlifted to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., for an emergency C-section, but the baby died, according to the report.
