Beaumont Health in Michigan Commits $68M to Private Medical School

Beaumont Health System, based in Royal Oak, Mich., has committed $68 million toward financing the new Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, according to a Detroit News report.

The medical school was established to address the state's looming shortage of physicians. According to the report, in Michigan alone there is an anticipated shortage of 4,000 physicians over the next 10 years. Beaumont Health President and CEO Gene Michalski said approximately 1,000 Beaumont physicians are expected to retire in that same time period.
