Meet the organization: Southern Ohio Medical Center is a nonprofit health system that employs 2,600 people, including more than 140. In 2015, SOMC ranked No. 44 on Fortune's "100 Best Companies to Work For" list. In 2012, SOMC was one of just 13 Press Ganey clients nationally to be given a Distinctive Workplace Award. This award is only bestowed to organizations that operate with at least 95 percent employee satisfaction. Although Scioto County — where SOMC is based — is home to the highest rate of smokers per capita nationwide, SOMC no longer hires applicants who smoke.
