Richard Afable, MD. President and CEO of St. Joseph Hoag Health (Newport Beach, Calif.). Dr. Afable serves as president and CEO of St. Joseph Hoag Health, an integrated delivery system in Orange County that includes seven hospitals, numerous ambulatory sites and an expansive physician network. In addition, Dr. Afable serves as executive vice president and regional senior executive of Providence St. Joseph Health, Southern California, and interim CEO of Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, Calif. Prior to the creation of St. Joseph Hoag Health, Dr. Afable was president and CEO of Newport Beach-based Hoag Memorial Presbyterian, a two-hospital system with 5,000 employees. He spent 10 years in private practice as a board-certified internist and geriatrician and he was executive vice president and CMO of Newtown Square, Pa.-based Catholic Health East. He also founded Preferred Physician Partners, an Ohio-based physician practice management company.
