University of Virginia Medical Center (Charlottesville, Va.).Since 1989, UVA physicians and surgeons have performed more than 300 heart transplants and currently perform a higher volume of angioplasties for superior mesenteric arteries than most other heart centers in the country. The Society of Thoracic Surgeons honored the University of Virginia Medical Center with a three-star rating, the highest rating possible, for isolated coronary artery bypass surgery and aortic valve replacement surgery. In 2015, its Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Center earned the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology Foundation Get With the Guidelines Heart Failure Gold-Plus Quality Achievement Award. More recently, U.S. News & World Report named the 600-bed hospital among the top 50 hospitals in the nation for cardiology and heart surgery in 2017-18.
