Tampa (Fla.) General Hospital. Tampa General Hospital, a 1,011-bed institution with around 7,300 employees, includes six cardiac catheterization labs, seven interventional radiology suites, eight cardiac operating rooms and a hybrid heart valve operating room. Tampa General Hospital received accreditation in heart failure surgery from the American College of Cardiology and atrial fibrillation accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care. U.S. News & World Report ranked Tampa General among the top 50 hospitals in the nation for adult cardiology and heart surgery for 2017-18.
Texas Children's Hospital (Houston). In 2013, the Healthcare Accreditation Colloquium named Texas Children's Hospital the first Pediatric Health Failure Institute in Texas, a distinction shared with four other pediatric programs across the country. Physicians and surgeons at the nonprofit hospital treat more than 17,000 patients and perform around 800 surgeries annually. Direct Energy saw a need for growth and donated $5 million to Texas Children's Hospital to expand the heart center to include a higher volume of patients with critical heart conditions. The Society of Thoracic Surgeons granted the hospital a three-star rating, the highest possible distinction, for congenital heart surgery.
Texas Heart Institute at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center (Houston). Founded by Denton A. Cooley, MD, in 1962, the Texas Heart Institute at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing cardiovascular disease. The heart institute was born through the partnership between the Texas Heart Institute and CHI St. Luke's Health-Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center. For the past 25 years, Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center has been ranked among the top institutions in the country for cardiology and heart surgery by U.S. News & World Report.
The Christ Hospital Health Network (Cincinnati). The Christ Hospital Health Network's The Christ Hospital was the first hospital in the Cincinnati region to build a transcatheter aortic valve replacement program in 2011, and in June surgeons performed the 500th heart valve replacement procedure at the hospital. In an effort to decrease the death rate for heart attacks, the health system launched The Christ Hospital Chest Pain Network to collaborate with other hospitals and emergency medicine professionals in the community to improve treatment. Truven Health Analytics named The Christ Hospital among the top 50 cardiovascular hospitals in the U.S. for the 11th time in 2017, and the American Heart Association honored the hospital with the Mission: Lifetime Quality Achievement Award for quality improvement initiatives focused on heart attack patients.
